All Starz Troupe Newsletter
Term 1 2024
Welcome Back To All Starz!
We hope you had a restful and relaxing break over the School Holiday period. We are very excited to welcome all our returning dancers and families, as well as those who are joining us this year. We are thrilled to have each and every one of you as part of our dance family. We’re always looking for ways we can improve at All Starz, and 2024 will be no exception. In an effort to improve our communications with you, we will be putting out a newsletter at the beginning of each term with a snapshot of what you can expect throughout the term, any upcoming events, and exciting announcements. It will be live on our website at allstarz.com.au/troupe-newsletter, and we hope this will become like a noticeboard for anything you may need throughout the year.
TERM 1 Snapshot
Friday 2nd of February - Saturday 13th of April
Public Holiday Closures:
Friday 29th of March – Monday 1st April
Friday 9th February 2024
Term 1 at All Starz is an exciting time of the year. New age groups form, bringing new friendships and new inspiration, and we will see each troupe team's potential and unique strengths. We will spend the first part of this term setting our students up for success. We are deep-diving into strong dance foundations and giving our dancers challenging progressions that will have a lasting impact on their dance technique. Setting the year up this way will pay off tenfold when we begin choreographing our competition routines toward the end of term.
The 12/u, 14/u and Open Age students are fortunate to be starting the year with a real bang; renowned choreographer James Fenwick is returning to All Starz to create our hip-hop competition routines this year. We know our students are ready for his challenging routines, and we know you can’t wait to see what he creates.
We are also thrilled to have the official launch of Tap Mode within All Starz. Tap Mode is the brand new tap syllabus I created to help reinvigorate tap dance in Australia and further challenge students in the genre. All Starz, along with 15 other studios, will be the founding members of the syllabus. We look forward to seeing the strength it brings to our tap classes and seeing students rewarded with recognition for their hard work as we re-introduce tap exams at the studio.
We are having a disco dress-up day to add a little colour and excitement to our term. Why? Why not! We want to see all your sequins, flairs, and groovy patterns and encourage our dancers to showcase their inner disco personalities. This extravaganza will take place from Thursday, the 7th of March, to Saturday, the 9th of March.
In 2024, we are very happy to announce our full-time team is expanding.
We would like to make a very warm welcome to Amy Petsalis, who joins us as ‘Recreation Coordinator and Troupe Assistant’. Amy boasts over 20 years of teaching and performing experience and is a passionate mentor to developing pre-professional artists. Amy will be working closely with all our troupe students 6/u - Open Age, we know the positive impact she will have on the development of our dancers, and can’t wait for you and your dancers to get to know her.
The lovely Kylie Woodhams is formally becoming our ‘Reception and Customer Accounts Manager’,
and we have a new Ready Set Dance Coordinator, Emma Atkins, who brings with her a mountain of knowledge and passion for this department.
Car Park Reminder
This is a start-of-the-year reminder to always be mindful of the All Starz community when dropping/picking up from the studio. Our priority is to protect all students and ensure all staff can carry out their duties. We take heavy precautions to see the students arriving and leaving our studios to ensure their safety. We ask that you DO NOT block access to the car park by parking across the driveway or exiting your vehicle. This will block access to the building. We rope off access to the car park when necessary, so if you are uncomfortable with making a quick curb stop and letting your child out, please plan to park in one of the neighbouring streets and walk your child into the studio.
When parking on the street, please be mindful and respectful of our neighbours’ driveways. Parking Rangers patrol this area regularly, and fines will be issued if the parking rules are not followed. There is additional parking over the footbridge on Ogilvy Street, but these are timed parking spots and patrolled. Pedestrians should always use the yellow pathway to access the studio when coming in through the carpark. We ask that everyone follows the rules to protect the safety of everyone moving around in the car park and on the street. We thank you in advance for your cooperation with this, as we know you want to ensure safety at All Starz as much as we do.
Celebrations at All Starz
We love celebrating all kinds of milestones and achievements in our students' lives at All Starz, and birthdays are no exception. We love seeing the whole team celebrate their friend's birthdays and love the special memories it creates. Please be mindful when sending items up for your child to celebrate with. There are many dietary restrictions and high-risk allergies that we are aware of, but there are also parenting preferences we are unaware of. In light of this, we ask that any celebration food items brought into the studios be individually wrapped. Think 'Chupa Chups', fun-sized 'Skittles' or individually wrapped cookies, or anything you would consider handing out at Halloween. This way, we can keep students safe, and those too young to know if they can eat something can take it home and ask their parents.
Competition Tracksuits will be ordered later in term 1, ready for the competition season. All Troupe Students must have a full All Starz Tracksuit (jacket and pants). It gives the students a sense of belonging to a team at special events and competitions and gives us a sleek, uniform look. (If you purchased a tracksuit in 2023, the design hasn’t changed, and you do not need to order again)
Please see the updated troupe calendar with all the important dates throughout the year. We do our best to plan and ensure you receive everything with as much notice as possible. We don’t anticipate these events changing, so please write them in ink in your diary.
If you haven't already, please join the relevant Facebook group for your age group. Here, we post lots of on the go updates and important information you will need throughout the year.
We hope you are ready for a big year of dance. We can not wait to see the incredible things we will achieve this year.
